Lawmaker Identifies Bane of Nigerian Politics Ogun From Toba Suleiman in Abeokutaa Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Titi Oseni, has identified lack of political education on the part of the electorate and elected officials as the bane of Nigerian Politics. Oseni said this while declaring open a two-day worksop for Councillors and Clerks of Local Government Councils in the State. Represented by House Chairman, Finance and Appropriation Committee, Clement Ifesanwo, the Speaker expressed her determination to ensure the sustenance of the nation's nascent democracy. According to her, all hands must be on deck to train political gladiators and career officers from the grassroots level, pointing out that the on-going workshop was an indication to that effect. She said such workshop would go a long way to make the elected representatives vast in law making and ensure dividends of democracy to the electorate. Oseni said what the electorates were expecting was fulfilment of all electoral promises, to enhance their living conditions. "According to the Speaker, politicians would not be doing justice to their conscience, should they fail to carry out their responsibility of transforming the lives of the people in their respective communities, through provision of social ammenitites." She, therefore, advised participants not to regard the workshop as mere academic exercise, but an avenue for them to broaden their horizon and expand their political wherewithal for the overall benefits of the people.
