Council Spends N32m on Rural Electrification Delta From Onwuka Nzeshi in Warri A total of N32 million has been spent on rural electricification scheme in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, the council authorities have said. Similarly, contracts for the renovation of 11 health centres spread across the council have commenced, while another contract for the provision of a solar-powered water scheme has been flagged off in three communities. Chairman of the Local Government Council, Hono -urable Peter Forteta, disclosed this while counting the gains of his adiministration in its first 100 days in office. Addressing newsmen, Forteta said his administration identified steady power supply as a priority in the socio-economic lives of the people, hence the huge investment in the scheme. Under the scheme, an 800KVA Perkins power generating plant was purchased alongside two 500KVA transformer feeder pillars, to guarantee regular power supply to Burutu township, Forteta said. According to him, the power situation in the town has been very epileptic, leaving many technicians and artisans who depend on electricity to ply their trade in distress. " When the 800KVA plant is finally installed about two weeks from now, it would boost economic activities in Burutu township because with electricity, hair-dressers, barbers, mechanics and many other small scale entrepreneurs who depend on electricity to run their trade would be able to focus on their legitimate businesses, instead of taking to crime", he said.
