Nigeria Sends 147 to Athens From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja For the first time in the last two decades, Nigeria is to be represented by a slim 147-man contingent at this summer's Olympiad in Athens, Greece. The most surprising entries were the inclusion of both Uchenna Emedolu and Mary Onyali-Omagbemi sensationally dropped after failing to participate at the Olympic Trials in Abuja last month. Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Public Relations Officer Tny Nezianya in a statement yesterday said Team Nigeria will participate in 10 sports disciplines - athletics, boxing, basketball, football, judo, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. A breakdown indicates that athletics has the largest with 26 athletes with six accompanying officials, boxing has seven, with six officials, basketball 12 players and four officials, football 22 players and four officials. Others are: two judokas and three officials, two swimmers with three officials, taekwondo three, with four officials. table tennis eight and four officials. weightlifting two and three officials and wrestling one and three officials. The athletes will be backed by a 10-man strong medical team while the Sports Ministry's contingent is 12 and is led by the Minister Col. Musa Mohammed.
