2007: North, S.West ’Il back Ndigbo-Ohanaeze chieftain

NKIRU OKEKE, Enugu

A chieftain of the Apex Igbo Socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Chief H.B.C. Ogboko has said that the North and the South West would support Igbo in their quest for presidency come 2007.

Chief Ogboko, a former National publicity secretary of Ohanaeze who made this known in an exclusive interview with Sunday Champion in Enugu, urged Igbos to go back to the drawing board and fine-tune the strategy for getting the plum position.

According to him, "I strongly believe that with the kind of support and cooperation given to the North during the time of Alhaji Shehu Shagari and with the kind of support and cooperation given to late Chief MKO Abiola and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo at various times, morality places it upon the North and Yoruba to support Igbo nation in her desire to produce next president of Nigeria come 2007.

"The tripod position of Nigeria should not be ignored in the allocation of this very coveted office. It is rational to obey it at what ever cost."

He threatened that Igbos may withdraw from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the party neglects the tripod situation in the rotation of the presidency.

Ogboko however expressed optimism that President Olusegun Obasanjo would not relent on the rotation of the presidency.

"Igbos have had enough of vice president and president of the senate. We see this time as God’s time for Nigeria president of Igbo stock. The effort, it is believed will yield a good result, which will enhance Nigeria unity and socio economic and political development," he maintained.
