Attempts by the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara,
to join the growing ranks of influential Nigerians who own
prime property in the highbrow area of Lekki Peninsula Lagos
has landed him in a messy land deal.
Wabara is presently embroiled in a bitter dispute with a police
woman, Mrs. Amajuonu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police
(name withheld) who is also laying claim to the parcel of
land.
Wabara’s claims over the land is being faulted by the
woman who insists that the senate president had fallen victim
of land speculators.
The matter degenerated last month when workmen employed by
Wabara were allegedly physically assaulted by some policemen
reportedly acting Amajuonu’s order, raising tension
in the locality.
When Sunday Sun visited the area Thursday, residents narrated
how only a day before, there was a serious fight among land
speculators, prompting the drafting of a trailer-load of policemen
to quell it.
Determined to continue with the development of the disputed
land, Wabara has petitioned the Inspector General of Police,
Mr. Tafa Balogun, to “call the Assistant Police Commissioner
to order.”
One Mr. Uzoma Abonta, the Managing Solicitor of Kem-Abonta
& Co, signed the petition on Wabara’s behalf. Below
is the full text of the letter:
THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY
“We are solicitors to RT Hon. Adolphus Wabara (President
of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria), of National
Assembly, Three Arms Zone, Abuja hereinafter referred to as
our client.
“It is our instruction to bring to your notice and for
necessary intervention/actions, the threat to the life of
workers and property of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Adolphus
Wabara in Lagos State.
“It is our further instruction that one Mrs. Amajuonu,
an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Force Headquarters,
Louis Edet House, Abuja with the aid of her office has been
using uniformed and armed Mobile Policemen to terrorize the
workers of our client who are working on our client’s
property at Badore Road, Ajah Lekki, Eti-Osa LGA, Lagos State.
“In her quest to forcefully claim our client’s
property, she has employed force and intimidation, using Mobile
Police Personnel to harass innocent persons in the vicinity.
“It is therefore our definite instruction to request
you to please call her to order to save the police and our
nascent democracy from undue embarrassment.”
