SPEB releases 6,000 motorcycles to Zamfara teachers
From Isah Ibrahim, Gusau

ZAMFARA State Primary Education Board (SPEB) has released 6,000 motorcycles to be distributed to its primary school teachers.

Chairman of the board, Alhaji Sani Tukur Kaura, who disclosed this to reporters at the weekend, said the motorcycles were procured through the monthly loan of N50 million received from the state government.

He explained that the motorcycles are to be sold on loan basis at a subsidised rate of N70,000 only, which is to be paid through the monthly deduction of N2,500 from the beneficiaries' salaries.

The chairman revealed that the gesture was part of the government's commitment to reduce teachers' transportation problem, which they often faced.

Kaura said the state government has released N11 million to the board for the payment of 6,000 pupils' registration fees for this year's National Common Entrance Examinations into Federal Government Colleges.

He stated that out of the 6,000 pupils who sat for the examinations, about 4,300 candidates passed.

The chairman added that the board has also received an assistance of N2.1 million from the World Bank for equipping the board's library.

He, therefore, thanked the World Bank and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for their various contributions towards the upliftment of education in the state.
