Akinjide, Olunloyo mourn
From Iyabo Sotunde, Ibadan

SECOND Republic Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Chief Richard Osuolale Akinjide (SAN) and Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a governor of the old Oyo State in the same dispensation, expressed shock and disbelief as they mourned the passing-on of Chief Debo Akande (SAN).

Speaking with The Guardian in Ibadan yesterday, Chief Akinjide, while expressing shock on Akande's death, described him as a great Yoruba and Nigerian patriot who would be greatly missed by all.

Akinjide said that with the death of the foremost lawyer, the legal profession had lost one of its brilliant and leading members.

"This is a great disaster. I do not know why this should happen again at this time. I am lost for words. We have lost a great Yoruba and Nigerian patriot and one of the leading members of the legal profession," he said.

The former Justice Minister who said he had known the deceased chairman of the Body of Benchers for almost 40 years as a colleague, politician and a son of Ibadan, prayed God to console his family and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Also reacting, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo described Akande's death as a great tragedy for Nigeria and the Yoruba race.

"He was a very honest and serious fellow, very reliable. I have never at any time seen him angry. A very lovely person, always smiling. It is a pity he had to die at this time," Olunloyo said.`
