OWERRI — THE rate, at which federal road contracts in Imo State are being abandoned is now a source of worry for the state government. Imo State Deputy Governor, Chief Ebere Udeagu, who expressed the position of the state government in Owerri, when he played host to the member representing Imo and Abia states in the National Economic Intelligence Committee (NEIC) in the Presidency, Mr. Emeka Ebilah, an engineer, said: "Although contracts have long been awarded for the reconstruction of Ihiala/Orlu/Nkwerre/Umuelemai road,as well as Ihube/Okigwe/Seven and Half road and Owerri/Mbaise/Seven & Half road, they have stillremained uncompleted and abandoned,” the Deputy Governor lamented.
Stretching his arguments further, Udeagu said that while some other states who effectively executed federal government projects on their own, had been compensated, Imo is yet to be given the samefavourable treatment for the construction of Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, and the Orlu/Ideato/Urualla/Osina road.”This administration passionately appeals to the Federal Government to consider Imo State like hercounterparts because the rate at which federal contracts are being abandoned in the state, is nolonger giving the government and her citizens any cause for joy,” Udeagu pleaded.
He promised the continued support of the state government to NEIC monitoring unit in the state, as well as other federal agencies, stressing that there was the need for this sort of cooperation in the overall interest of the country and her citizens.Speaking earlier, Mr. Ebilah commended the state government for giving the monitoring unit of NEIC anoffice accommodation in the state. He further explained that the office would monitor the reflection of federal government allocations in thestate.
