2007: PDP'll Fail in Lagos- AD By Shaka Momodu Alliance for Democracy in Lagos State has assured President Olusegun Obasanjo that the state will remain firmly in the grasp of the A D, come 2007 regardless of PDP antics to capture the state. Addressing a press conference weekend at Ikeja, the Party Chairman, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, while noting the various policies of the PDP-controlled Federal Government designed to achieve its objective are undemocratic, declared: "we are saying it loud and clear today that we will not be muzzled by the quasi-military style of President Obasanjo." He said further the PDP "should wake up from the dangerous and ultimately self destruct illusion that it can impose one-party state on a country as complex and diverse as Nigeria." "The AD hereby reiterates its commitment to the emergence of a truly Federal Republic of Nigeria, where the component parts are treated with equity, the citizens with dignity and democracy is the true sense of the world is practised," he added. Describing the victory of the PDP in 2003 as the beginning of the slide into dictatorship, Prince Ogunleye said the continued supplanting of the people's will through robbery at the polls portends grave dangers for those who perpetrate the acts adding that history is replete with the fate of men who stood against the people's will. While also accusing the President of orchestrating the various plans to destabilise and overthrow democracy in Lagos State, the chairman noted "it is particularly instructive that the President has never uttered one word of condemnation against the various acts of violence and outright disrespect for the law and constitution perpetrated by the PDP in Lagos State."
