PDP Accused of Encouraging Indiscipline From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Followingthe suspension last week of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Alhaji Zubair Abubakar the state Deputy Governor, Chief Joel Afolabi Ogundeji, has hit hard on the national leadership of the party, accusing it of encouraging indiscipline. Ogundeji, according to a press statement published the Herald Newspapers, cried out that recent development amounted to siege on the party in the state. The deputy governor, in addition to the suspension of the party chairman also cited the imposition of "a Deputy National Publicity Secretary on the state without local confirmation and approval". The twin actions, he contended smacked of a siege on Kwara PDP which to him is being orchestrated by some members in Abuja. "It is imperative to stress that the siege on Kwara PDP is orchestrated from some party leaders in Abuja who are out of focus with the reality in Kwara". We appeal to the national leadership of our party to discourage gross indiscipline that has characterized the activities of Kwara PDP members fomenting trouble and instability from Abuja. But he queried the national leadership of the party for imposing a candidate on the state "when the state executive of the party nor the governor was consulted before such appointment". He cited article 18 (4) of the party constitution which stipulated consultation with a local state executive committee who shall appoint a substitute from the zone of an immediate past officer in the event of a vacuum pending the conduct of election at the next congress or convention. Ogundeji, talking on the suspension of Zubair described the action against the party chairman as curious and stated that the action may further destabilise the party.
