Meseko Seeks N1bn for Libel From Lillian Okenwa in Abuja A member of the House of Representatives, Hon.Duro Meseko, has asked a High Court of Kogi State to award him N1 billion naira as damages against Mercury Commu-nications Limited, owners of Sunrise Newspaper, its Editor, Mohammed Idris and Dr. Stephen Olurunfemi following an alleged libelous publication. Meseko in the suit claims that between July 5 and 19, the said newspaper carried a pictorial report of an alleged destruction by fire of Olorunfemi's properties at Kabba town and an interview he granted asserting that his properties worth over N300, 000 were destroyed in the wake of Olorunnipa's murder by hooligans led by Meseko. The legislator who averred that the newspaper has a large circulation throughout Nigeria, particularly in Kogi State, said by reason of the publication, his reputation has been greatly injured.
