Kwara May Float Mining Company From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Determined to push forward its belief in solid minerals as a veritable means of revenue generation, Kwara State government has indicated its resolve to set up a mining company. The mining company, according to the state Governor, Bukola Saraki, who met with the stakeholders in the mining industry, said the state is exploring means of setting up an Independent Power Plant (IPP) which shall be coal powered. The governor contended that solid minerals development if vigorously pursued can be another rich means of revenue generation, adding that his government shall give the full weight to the stakeholders for the development of solid minerals in the state. Saraki also spoke on the activities of illegal miners and noted that if they were brought into the mainstream of activities, government would be able to reap the benefit. He assured that buying centres shall be established at designated spots of illegal mining business to plough back the illegal gains of the miners. The buying and selling centres, he noted, would change the face of solid minerals in the state. The governor maintained that the state is endowed with abundant minerals resources, which have remained largely untapped, saying with the global fluctuations in the price of petroleum, any further dependence on oil as the mainstay of the economy could be fatal. Saraki recalled dislocations price of petroleum in the global market has caused the domestic economic scene and buttressed the need for an alternative economic base for the country.
