5 Die, 20 Injured in Gombe Accident From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe No fewer than five people died in a multiple road accident in Gombe metropolis at the weekend. About 20 others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe. Eye-witness account said the accident occurred when a truck coming from Ashaka roundabout lost control as a result of a break failure around Dukku Station road and hit four vehicles and motorcycles. Among the vehicles were a pick up van, a 504 station wagon belonging to the Nigeria Police, a bus conveying some students of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe and another truck carrying soft drinks. The truck also damaged part of the Pilot Secondary School. Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre confirmed that those injured in the accident are receiving treatment at the hospital. The Deputy Governor, John Yoriyo and Secretary to the government, Alhaji Bala Magaji had visited the scene of the accident and sympathised with families of the victims. Yoriyo said the incident was an act of God and urged people to remain calm. He promised that the state would shoulder the medical expenses of the victims of the accident.
