Enugu To Move Against Cultism From Emmanuel Ugwu in Enugu Heads of tertiary institutions in Enugu State have been charged to make extra efforts to stem the rising tide of cult-related clashes and their attendant death tolls in the state capital. The State Security Council gave the charge to Vice Chancellors of the University of Nigeria and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, who were invited to its meeting, saying that government was poised to deal a decisive blow on cult activities. A statement issued by the state's commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, at the weekend, noted that members of the council deplored the upsurge in cult activities and warned that nobody involved in such activities would be spared in the renewed onslaught. The meeting also reviewed activities of security agencies in the state and expressed satisfaction at their "wonderful performance, which has brought down the rate of crime in the state." The council also commended Governor Chimaroke Nnamani for providing the necessary logistical support to security agencies, thereby enhancing their performances. To further demonstrate his commitment to maintaining security in the state, Governor Nnamani immediately after the meeting donated two Toyota Hilux jeeps to the Nigeria Police, Enugu State Command in appreciation of their efforts in fighting crime and keeping criminals at bay.
