Electoral Commissioner Decries Parties' Non-challant Attitude From Mustapha Muhammad in Maiduguri Resident Independent Electoral Commissioner in Borno State, Mr. Steven Manya has decried the non-participation of political parties representatives at some of the interactive sessions organised by the state chapter of the commission. The interactive session was held ahead of the bye-election for Gulumba Woloji. He said the session was part of the preparedation made by the commission to rub minds with the party executives, as well as take contributions from journalists, to avert any possible break down of law and order during the voting exercise. Manya said if there is no political participation, the nascent democracy will not survive adding that "political parties should exercise their rights by participating." He said the bye-election became necessary due to the disruption and irregularities which allegedly charaterised the election in the first place. Manya maintained that the interactive session would help to address any unforseen development that may arise in the course of conducting the elections.
