Councils Tasked on Employment
From Jare Ilelaboye in Katsina

A member of Board of Trustees of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Iro Dan Musa has called on Local Government Councils in the country to use 20 percent of their allocations from the Federal Government to create some form of employment within their domain.

Dan Musa, a former minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the Second Republic said, if local councils in the country could create employment using their allocations, then there would be reduction in unemployment in their respective areas where youth would find things tangible to do.

He hinged his argument on the fact that unemployment level in the country was becoming unbearable, hence the need for councils to do something to alleviate the sufferings of parents and guardians whose wards, after passing out from schools, still roam the streets without jobs.

He argued that the form of employment they should create in their councils should be able to give jobs to one thousand able bodied men and women by paying such workers between N5,000 to N10,000 or as such councils could afford.

Dan Musa expressed optimism that the current reforms on the long run, would solve some of the nation's problems and urged people to endure it because the federal government does not enjoy punishing or making Nigerians suffer.

On the call for a Sovereign National Conference (SNC), the former minister pointed out that the north or its people are not afraid of the SNC because the North would not losse anything by it.

According to him, "there is nothing the national conference can solve among the many problems confronting the country saying that the most important thing everyone should try to achieve is to ensure peaceful co-existence among various components of the country."
