Pepsi North Wins Pepsi U-16 Tourney By Femi Solaja Pepsi football team from the north over the weekend emerged the maiden champion of the U-16 international competition sponsored by Pepsi Football Academy. The final match played before an appreciable crowd at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Lagos saw the lads from Pepsi (North) managing a lone goal win over a determined Damilola Taylor in the second half of the match through a penalty kick. Earlier before the final, Pepsi Lagos had beaten their counterparts from Ghana 2-0 to claim the third spot. At the end of the match awards were given to deserved winners with Faisal Abdullahi from Ghana being crowned as the "Most Valuable Player" of the competition just as Nnamdi Onyemara won the highest goal scorer award with six goals and the Ghanaian team won the fair play trophy. As part of its desire to lift football to greater heights in the continent, Pepsi has vowed to fulfil its promise to send outstanding lads to Bolton Football Academy to further enhance their budding football carriers. The lucky players according to Mr Ian Nelson are Philips Ede and Okoduga Ekhiadi while coach Samson Unueh is expected to precede to Germany on a Pepsi sponsored coaching course. In all 12 teams took part in the competition with foreign youth teams from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Republic of Benin and Liberia in attendance.
