'Our Refs are Kill-Joys' From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin A member of the Ilorin Referees Society (IRS), Lanre Alege at the weekend took an overview of the roles of his colleagues in the nation's domestic soccer environment and concluded that they are 'kill joys'. Alege, who is the Publicity Secretary of the Kwara State chapter pointed out that the biased officiating is now taking the shine off the local soccer scene. He expressed worry at the activities of his colleagues, which he noted has been responsible for the violence recorded at some league centres in the country. The local referee's official called for the transfer of match officials' indemnity from host team to the Pro-League Department as a way of reducing undue contact between match officials and host teams. He also called for strict sanction on erring referees and culpable match officials to serve as deterrent to others.
