combat erosion in Imo

Respite from the threat of
erosion on their farms and homes came the way of residents of Ubirielem
area of Orsu Local Government in Imo State as the Federal Government
awarded contracts worth N300 million for erosion control.
The Managing Director of
Nigeria Breweries, Chief Festus Odimegwu, said this at the weekend at
Ubirielem when he received Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and his entourage who
had come to felicitate with him on his 51st birthday. He described the
gesture as wonderful news for his people.
He said President Olusegun
Obasanjo has shown himself as a true leader by coming to the rescue of
the Ubirielem kingdom.
Odimegwu, who described
Araraume as one of the best South East lawmakers at the National
Assembly, said those that have found themselves in positions of authority
must show humility and dedication to the service of the people. He said
he was aware of how the senator representing Okigwe senatorial zone is
conducting himself and his efforts at drawing attention to the problems
confronting the South East and Imo State in particular.
Odimegwu urged other leaders
to emulate Araraume because Imo has come out better because of the good
representation of their ambassadors.
Araraume said his entourage
including Senator Boniface Agunane, Chief Patrick Onuoha, Chief Ambrose
Ejiogu and Eze Allen Okoro were in Ubirielem to felicitate with him and
also to associate with his out-standing performance in turning the
fortunes of the Nigerian Breweries around.
He said the siting of a
brewery plant in Enugu is a monumental gift to the people of the South
East in terms of economic and empowerment generation.
The senator explained that the
achievements of Odimegwu should not be lost to the people of the South
East and advised those occupying similar positions not to forget their
origin and the problems facing Ndigbo. He said lawmakers from the South East are doing
everything possible to re-write the history of the zone through their
consultations and push for developmental projects.
Araraume assured him and other
leaders of the zone that the National Assembly members of Igbo extraction
would ensure that the zone gets its due and that they would continue to
promote a united and indivisible Nigeria.
