Project

Construction
giants, Julius Berger Nigeria PLC has lost out in the bid to build the
Nigeria Football Association’s permanent secretariat to be funded by FIFA
through its Goal Project.
The
company lost out due to its failure to meet the deadline set for
constructing firms by the consultant for the project, Interprojects
Associates to submit their bid for the construction of the NFA
secretariat.
The
Project Manager for the building of the secretariat, Shehu Dikko who
disclosed this in Abuja on Friday, says the three firms, Julius Berger,
Bouygues and Arab Contractors had requested for an extension of deadline
for them to submit their bid, which the consultants turned down.
Meanwhile,
the three firms that met the deadline for the submission of bids for the
contract, Ujat Nigeria Limited, Dori Construction and Engineering Nigeria
Limited, and Aron Nigeria Limited will meet in Abuja Tuesday with FIFA
and the consultant to negotiate and pick the winner of the bid to build
the secretariat.
Engineer
Habu Gumel who supervised the bidding at the NFA secretariat, says this
has become necessary as a result of the failure of any of the three
companies to win the bid.
He
explained that, on Tuesday, the team will negotiate with the construction
firms to beat down their cost to meet the target set for intending
contractors by the consultant.
According
to him, the Nigeria Football Association has to get a contractor for the
project on Tuesday ahead of the August 11 deadline given to it by the
world football governing body, FIFA for the submission of the
contractor’s name to its secretariat in Zurich.
At
the Friday’s bidding, Ujat submitted a bidding cost of N315m and promised
to finish the job in 26 weeks, Dori Construction presented a N285.8m and
a 20 weeks completion period, while Aron Nigeria Limited says it would
finish the work in 26 weeks at the cost of N215.1m
