Yobe begins preparation for National Sports Festival host By Orkula Shaagee Correspondent, Abuja   The government of Yobe State has started preparation for the hosting of the National Sports Festival, with the budgetary allocation of N200 million for the renovation of sporting facilities in the state and the award of construction of an astro turf hockey pitch in Damaturu, the state capital. Disclosing this in a chat with Daily Independent in Abuja at the weekend, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Saleh Kachala said the bid for the construction of the sporting facility has already been received from reputable companies. Alhaji Kachala stated that apart from the construction of the astro turf hockey pitch, Yobe State government will construct an Indoor sports Hall in the state capital to meet the requirement for the hosting of a national sports event like the National Sports Festival. He also disclosed that, as part of efforts to ensure that the state hosts a hitch-free National Sports Festival in the near future, the Yobe State Government under Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim has approved the building of a standard Games Village in the state. Speaking further, the commissioner expressed the hope that, the state-owned football team, Yobe Desert Stars would soon bounce back to reckoning, as government has reconstituted its board to make the club functional and result oriented.       Copyright� 2002.
