Plateau wins 1st Abba Ibrahim U-20 Hockey Championship By Orkula Shaagee Correspondent, Abuja   Plateau State has emerged the champions of the maiden edition of the Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim National Boys Hockey Championship that ended at the Abuja National Stadium last Saturday. The week-long hockey championship saw  Plateau emerging victorious after garnering 8 points from two victories and 2 draws; FCT came second with 8 points from two victories and 2 draws; Yobe State came third with 6 points from 3 draws and 1 win; Niger State placed fourth with 4 points from one draw, one victory and one loss; while Ekiti State came last with no point. Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who was represented at the closing ceremony of the championship by the Yobe State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Saleh Kachala, enjoined other states to be actively involved in the game of hockey. He says, the Yobe State Government in her efforts to ensure the development of the sport in the country would continue to sponsor the championship in years to come. The closing ceremony also witnessed the award of prizes to outstanding individuals and teams, which includes Bala Useni as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Tunde Afolabni as the Most Promising Player, Paul and Shola as the Best Umpiring Team and Bala Useni as the Best Attacker of the tournament.       Copyright� 2002.
