AP to construct tank farm, mega station in C’River

By Bassey Inyang

Correspondent, Calabar

African Petroleum (AP) has announced that it intends to build a tank farm and a mega station in Cross River State.

As a first step towards achieving this objective, the company has requested for a plot of land from the state government.

The Chairman of AP, Chief Peter Okocha, who made the announcement when he paid a visit to the State Governor, Mr. Donald Duke, in Calabar at the weekend, said the project would contribute seriously to the development of the economy of the state.

Okocha applauded Duke for his initiative at setting up the Tinapa project and his effort at developing the tourism potential of the state.

The state governor, who personally received the AP chairman and his entourage declared that his administration would partner with the company to boost its developmental programme.

Duke promised that a certificate of occupancy would be granted AP by the state government if it applies for it and finally gets a land allocated to it. The governor was of the view that AP could be one of the vehicles to convey  tourists into the state. To this end, he advised that the expected tank farm should be constructed close to the riverine area so that the government would lend a helping hand in the provision of the necessary infrastructure for oil tankers to berth at the Calabar jetty.

The governor stated that at its full blown, Tinapa will attract, at least, two to three million people yearly, adding that the desire to realise this objective informed the government to pursue the completion of the project with vigour. Besides, the government said it would appreciate a situation where AP will build one of its facilities in the Obudu Cattle Ranch.
