NCC meets  consumers in Calabar

By Bassey Inyang

Correspondent, Calabar

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) at the weekend gathered key players in the industry in Calabar to proffer solutions to some identified problems.

The gathering, which was a Consumers’ Consultative Forum, was held to create awareness and educate stakeholders on ways to tackle the problems adequately.

The Head, Consumer Affairs Bureau of the NCC, Mr. Nnamdi Nwokike, who presided over the Calabar meeting, said the right of the customers must be protected if the telecommunications industry was to attain the standards required of it in a fast growing economy as Nigeria.

The NCC official maintained that the problems, confronting the industry in Nigeria, requires a revolutionary approach instead of rhetorics.

In the context, Nwokike averred that since the consumer is a very important factor for the stability and survival of the industry, the operators of the sector must reach out to him.

He emphasised that the constructive criticism of the operation of the telecommuni-cations industry by consumers has helped in no small measures in assisting the NCC to carry out its activity effectively.

The NCC official was of the view that the authority given to the operators of the Mobile Telecommunication Services to establish friendship centres was informed by the essence of giving the consumers easy access to providing solutions to any problem they may encounter.
