Environmentalist supports reintroduction of sanitary inspectors By Dada Jackson Senior Property and Environment Correspondent, Lagos   The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Lagos State chapter, chairman, Mrs. Celina Madumezia, has called for the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors otherwise known as wole-wole in Lagos. In an interview with Daily Independent, Madumezia said the clamor for the reintroduction of sanitary inspectors in the state was long overdue.  According to her, to win the battle embarked upon by the state government in keeping the environment clean and safe for the people of Lagos, everybody should join hands together in ensuring the success of this crusade. She said the state government through the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and other relevant agencies of government had been pursuing the issue of regulating the environment with vigor, adding that ‘‘no stone should be left unturned in this onerous task.’’   Madumezia noted that the issue of the environment and other related matters should not be taken with levity, explaining that this was why she had over the years, been advocating that government alone cannot handle the matter, without concerted effort on the part of all the stakeholders in the environment sub-sector.       Copyright� 2002.
