MASSOB Calls for Stay At Home on August 26 From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt Movement for Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has called on its members and the people of the former Eastern region of the country to stay at home on August 26 as a mark of protest on the desired independent state of Biafra and respect for their fatherland. The group, in a statement in Port Harcourt yesterday, directed that all schools, markets, offices, parks, etc in Biafra territory should remain close from 6 a.m to 4 p.m on that date. The statement captioned, "Biafrans Rejoice for Your Independence Has Come" was signed by the leader of the movement, Chief Raph Umazuruke, stressing that the directive is a demonstration of total intimidation, marginalization and the Nigeria occupation of Biafra territory for more than 37 years now. "We want to show that irrespective of Nigeria police harassment, arrest, killing, detention and shooting of non-violent MASSOB members and easterners in general, MASSOB still remains undeterred and more committed on the struggle," the statement stated. "MASSOB as the last hope towards the survival of Ndi-Igbo and Easterners in general want to prove that we are in control of the Eastern region (Biafra), Umazuiruke said.
