Ige: Fryo, 6 Others Begin Defence
From Ademola Adeyemo in Ibadan
The prime suspects in the case of conspiracy and murder of Chief Bola Ige, former Minister of Justice, Adedamola Adebayo (Fryo) and six former security aides of the late Ige, yesterday entered the defence box to defend themselves in the two-count charge of conspiracy and murder of the late Attorney-General.
Yesterday, at the resumed hearing of the case, counsel to Fryo, Prince Adediran Adeyemo called five witnesses namely Lucky Keyamo, the young brother of Festus Keyamo, a Lagos-based lawyer, Inspector Moses Adekunle, Miss Kehinde Seyinfolu, Martins and Olayinka Olawale, Yusuf Sheu who absorbed Fryo of the charges of conspiracy and murder.
According to Lucky, the alleged confession to the crime recorded and showed on television by his brother Festus "was totally false, Fryo actually protested the video recording of his discussion with my brother."
He also told the court that Festus "formulated the entire story." According to him, "After the press conference, Fryo told me that the whole story is totally false but I did not inform the police about it until March 12th, 2002."
"I would be surprised to hear Mr Segun Banjo saying that I was not present when my brother was discussing with Fryo in the chamber."
According to Lucky "my brother formulated the story in order to gain cheap publicity."
"After the interaction with Fryo, in our office and when we got home that day, I noticed something in my brother, he was overjoyed and very happy, when I inquired from him why, he told me that "my time has come. I will be more famous and popular than other well known lawyers in the country because of the calibre of person that is involved, Chief Bola Ige."
According to Lucky, he advised his brother not to engage in such act "He told me that opportunity comes but once and that he must use the opportunity, moreso, he wanted to contest the governorship seat in Delta State in 2007."
Also yesterday, Inspector Moses presented the result of the polygraph test conducted on Fryo which indicated that Fryo passed the lie test, the exhibits were admitted by the court.
Kehinde Martins and Olawale Sheu both sister and brother respectively testified and told the court how their brother came to Lagos on December 21st and 24th.
The presiding judge, Justice Atilade Ojo during yesterday's sitting warned counsels to desist from seeking for unnecessary adjournment.
"I am supposed to be on vacation, but I shelved it because of this case and I intend to finish it before going on vacation," he said.
However, the trial continues today during which Fryo is expected to enter the witness box and also an official of SSS will testify on the request of Mr Fred Onyeka, counsel to Daramola Ezekiel one of the late Ige's aide currently standing trial.
