Kwara South Senatorial Tussle: Ajadi Alleges Conspiracy
From Lillian Okenwa in Abuja
Erstwhile representative of Kwara South Senatorial District, Senator Sulaimon Ajadi has accused the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Abdullahi and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of conspiring to slow hearing in the suit he filed challenging his removal at the Senate.
Ajadi made the allegation yesterday through his lawyer, Mallam Mohammed Shuaibu at the resumed hearing of his suit at a Federal High Court, Abuja.
The embattled legislator premised his allegation on the request by defendants in the case that the case be adjourned till the court returns from vacation. Shuaibu told the judge that their request was an attempt to delay and frustrate quick dispensation of justice in the matter.
He also urged that the Court orders the defendants to maintain status quo ante should it (the Court) decide to grant their (the defendants') request.
Although the presiding judge, Justice Steve Jonah Adah did not make any pronouncement on the application, he ruled that it was in the interest of justice to grant an adjournment since among the defendants in the case, one (Senate President) was yet to file any paper.
Thereafter, he adjourned the case to August 19 while pointing out that on the next adjourned date, a number of pending preliminary objections challenging his jurisdiction to entertain the suit filed by Senator Ajadi would be entertained.
Justice Adah had earlier refused a fresh request by Ajadi to hear both the objections instituted against his case alongside his originating summons on the grounds that since he had earlier ruled that he would take preliminary objection before any other application, conceding to the fresh request would amount to approbating and reprobating.
