Group Canvasses Exxon-Mobil's Relocation Lagos By Mary Ekah Akwa Ibom National Cong-ress (ANC), a coalition of the confederation of Niger Delta, yesterday called on Exxon-Mobil to move its operational base from Lagos State where it currently situated to Akwa Ibom State where its raw material is exploited. Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu 1, ANC's National President and Coordinator, Andy Ennette, said this was one of the salient conditions of the 1972 Indigenisation Decree, which late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as then Federal Commissioner for Finance and Deputy Chairman, Federal Executive Council, introduced and was adopted by the Gen. Yakubu Gowon's administration. Ennette, who added that Exxon-Mobil was not keeping to this condition, emphasised that, according to the common law of economics, industry should be located near to the source of its raw material. He said: "Ondo State is housing the headquarters of the just established Commission of Bitumen recently discovered in the state, along with Edo, Lagos and Ogun states respectively." ANC president therefore said he saw no reason why the operational base of Exxon-Mobil should not be relocated to Akwa Ibom State, despite all pleas from by the state Governor, Victor Attah, the National Assembly and other concerned citizens of the state. ANC however solicited for the assistance of the Oba of Lagos in achieving this aim, adding that "as a peacemaker and an outstanding father of our time, ANC strongly believes that your intervention in the matter would not only assure us our deprived right, but also would remain an open door for further economic development in this direction."
