I didn’t kill Ige, Fryo tells court

By Sola Shittu,

Reporter, Ibadan

The prime suspect charged with the murder of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige,  Olugbenga Adedamola a.k.a Fryo, on Wednesday said he did not murder him.

Fryo, who was led in evidence by his counsel, Adeniran Adeyemo, also denied the statement where he claimed that the former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, sent him to kill the former minister, saying it was not true.

He also denied the video record by the Lagos based lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, stating that it also contained untruth information.

Narrating his experience to the court, Fryo said he was declared wanted by the police on January 7, 2002 in The Guardian newspaper.

“The name of my brother Sheu was also mentioned as an accomplice so I decided to go to the police station. On my way, I decided to see a friend of mine, Niyi, before proceeding to police station so that he may inform my people that I have gone to the police station. As I was about going out of his shop, he called me back and said that my girlfriend, Bola dropped a card that belonged to Femi Davies for me. At the back of the card, there is a note that stated that whenever I get this message I should be coming to his office straight,” he said.

Fryo narrated that in response to the message, he went down to Femi’s office at Ikeja. “I met him in the office with his friends, Segun Banjo and Biodun Kupoluyi that work for the Punch Newspapers.”

According to the accused, it was Femi Davies that linked him to Festus Keyamo who told him that the only escape route for him was to blackmail the government on the matter.

“Keyamo told me that the only thing that could help me now, because he knows that it was the government that killed Chief Bola Ige, is to blackmail the government that government will use a poor boy like me to cover their track. That if I go to the police directly, I should count myself dead,” he told the court.

Fryo added that it was Keyamo that tutored him to rope Omisore in the case that he killed Ige.
