The peace meeting initiated by Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State to settle the brewing crisis between President Olusegun Obasanjo and Owu kingmakers over the election of a new paramount ruler for Owu was attended by only four of the eight kingmakers.
Yesterday's meeting, which was held at the Ota Farm House of President Obasanjo had in attendance about 20 personalities believed to be leaders of thoughts of Owu, including two women and four of the eight kingmakers.
Kingmakers at the meeting include Basorun 'Doja Adewolu, Alhaji Ola Yusuf, Chief Olu Gbolahan Ijaola and Obasanjo, in his capacity as Balogun Owu. Those absent are Chief Rufus Onifade Sunday Ramoni Ogunbiyi and Olawale Oladunjoye
The kingmakers, who arrived at about 1pm went into a close door meeting with the President and the meeting did not end until about 3.30pm when they emerged from the building to take group photograghs with the President.
However, there are signs of early resolution of the crisis as President Obasanjo, in an apparent reference to four of the kingmakers who addressed a press conference earlier in the week where they alleged that he was trying to manipulate the election process, declared that he has forgiven all those who insulted in him.
Describing the chieftaincy crisis in Owu as a family affair, Obasanjo said that he did not take any offence with those that abused or insulted him over the matter adding that he viewed everything a burden of responsibility.
The President also announced that the meeting resolved to proceed, in a grand style, with the annual Owu festival billed to commence today but which was initially threatened by the chieftaincy crisis.
Obasanjo also commended Governor Daniel for initiating the meeting and added that the outcome of the meeting would be made known to him.
