Why We Embarked on Housing Projects - Daniel From Toba Suleiman in Abeokuta Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State has explained why his administration has embarked on housing projects especially the first Housing Development Project in Gateway City located between Isheri and Sagamu, despite the lean purse of the state government. "The Gateway City Development Project promises great economic benefits in terms of revenue for government, property tax, land charges, employment generation and several other social and economic gains. Delivering his address at the turning of the SOD of Havilah Villas held at Isheri, Daniel described the project as one of the innovative projects that the administration is using to attract investors to the State by making the process of land acquisition quite easy and less cumbersome. "It also seeks to proactively address the problems of population overspill from Lagos, which already presents great challenges of urban development. According to him, the area, which his administration has christened Gateway City covers about 20, 000 hectares of land and located between Isheri and Sagamu interchange had been acquired by various governments in the state between 1986 and 1990. Daniel said the development of Havilah Vilas is a joint venture between Gateway City Development Company (GDCD) and a private developer, Grant Properties, with the first phase made up of 108 units of medium-to-high income residential apartment.
