By Shaka Momodu

Lagos State Government Wednesday, donated relief materials worth over N500,000 naira to the victims of the fire disaster at JMJ Quarters Ilaje Community, Ajegunle in Ajeromi Local Government Area.

The materials which included stoves, buckets, blackest, towels, plates, pots, cups and spoons, were distributed by the Commissioner for Special Duties' Job Creations and intergovernmental Relations, Chief Henry Dele Ajomale.

Distributing the relief materials on behalf of the government, Chief Ajomale said the victims should see the donations as a token of the Governor's support for them in their time of need as no amount of money or relief material could replace their loss particularly the loss of their cherish materials.

He consoled them on behalf of the Governor Bola Tinubu who he said was deeply touched by the victims plight and is willing to do more to help them cushion the effects of their loss.

Earlier in her remarks, the Commissioner for Local Govern-ment and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Mrs. Oluremi Adikwu-Bakare, said the gesture is just a tip of the iceberg of the things the governor has in stock for the people.

She noted that the governor who can deem it fit to pay their children's examination fees without prompting and construct roads to make life easier for them, will still do more to reduce the hardship faced by fire victims.

Responding on behalf of the 20 recipients, the Olori Ilaje Community, Chief M. O. Obakpolo, praised Tinubu for responding promptly to the plight of his people.

He also thanked the Governor for not saying the Ilaje are not Lagosians but seeing them as citizens of the state. Obakpolo that continues to guide the governor.

In a similar show of appreciation, the Vice Chairman of Ajeromi Local Government who represented Chairman, Hon Paul Ovie, thanked the government for the gesture but further called for more government presence in the area.

The fire that rendered the people of Ilaje homeless occurred on March 1, when a kombi bus with 60 units of 50 of petrol caught fire when its driver wanted to jump-start the vehicle.
