Envoy Lauds Obasanjo's Leadership From Amby Uneze in Calabar Nigerian High Commissioner to the Republic of Uganda, Chief C.D. Orike, has affirmed that President Olusegun Obasanjo will be at the forefont of coalition efforts that will engender peace and economic stability in Africa . Orike made the assertion when a delegation of the United Nations' Peace Monitoring for Democratic Republic of Congo paid him a courtesy visit in Kampala A statement made available to THISDAY quoted the envoy as saying that with the renewed vigour demonstrated by Nigeria in the promotion of peace in Africa, especially now that president Obasanjo has taken the mantle of leadership of Afican Union (AU). peace would be achieved in Africa soon. Orike recalled the pivotal role played by President Obasanjo in sending relief to the Sudan and hoped that the Nigerian Peace Monitoring contingents drafted to the Sudan will achieve their desired goal as they did in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Orike said peace in Africa was of utmost importance, if the continent is to make meaning progress in economic development, combat poverty and disease. The High Commissioner reasoned that if African leaders religiously implement their electoral promises to the people, leadership would become a healthy challenging competition. Earlier, the head of (UN), Peace Delegation Mr. Sharif Sharouh had said he deemed it imperative to visit the Nigerian High Commissioner to mobilise Nigeria's support for the (UN), Peace Monitoring Delegation in (DRC), to achieve its objectives in Africa. Sharouh emphasised that their resolve is to bring about peace in (DRC), because his Mission was not only involved in Monitoring Peace efforts, but also involved in DDRRR operations, (Disarm, Demobilize, Repatriate, Reinte-grate and Resettle).
