Govt Abolishes Common Entrance Exams Jigawa From Bala Nasir in Dutse Jigawa State government has abolished common entrance examination for primary six pupils, and instead, would henceforth use continuous assessment for admission into junior secondary schools. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Alhaji Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, in an interview with newsmen in his office. He said this is contained in the state's new policy for education where it is provided that as the children receive their normal learning in school, they will at the same time be trained in skill development, to make them self-reliant by the time they finish school. He said, going by the massive failure of pupils at the common entrance examinations in the state, many of them find it difficult to gain admission into junior secondary schools. "If you are to say every child has to be examined after his primary school education and you have to use the required study format to assess the children, it means not more than 10 per cent of school age children will move to junior secondary schools," he said. Already, all the local education authorities in the state have been directed to write to all headmasters, to, as from next academic year, start grading pupils from primary five, for their continuous assessment to be obtained by the end of class six, the commissioner said.
