Govt to Establish Stock-broking Firm Jigawa From Bala Nasir in Dutse Jigawa State Investment and Property Company will soon establish a stock broking firm in the state. Special Adviser to Governor Turaki on Revenue and Investment, Alhaji Babangida Usman, made this known in Gumel. He said this is necessary because, there is no single firm to provide stocks and financial services in the state. This, he said, forced government and other individuals to rely on brokers in Kano and other places. The state's investment company, according to Usman, has a portfolio in over 50firms in different sections of the nation's economy, adding that the revenue generation of the state has remarkably improved in the last two years, over N500 million, with N200 million and N300 million respectively raised in 2002 and 2003. This, however, made it feasible for his office to target N500 million revenue for this year alone, he said. Meanwhile, despite the achievement, the board is currently facing some problems, especially with taxes that are now being withheld outside the state. He also urged staff of the state revenue board to maintain their resolve towards generating more revenue.
