Kalu Debunks Division Among South-east Govs AbiA From Emeka Osondu in Umuahia Abia State Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, has debunked the insinuation that there was a division among South-east governors, describing it as part of a larger plot to blackmail the region and present it as disunited. Kalu, who made the assertion while speaking at a special reception put together by the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia yesterday to welcome the Bishop of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province of the Catholic Church to Umuahia during their second plenary session for 2004 at the Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia, noted that it is quite unfortunate that the Igbos were still being treated as enemies 34 years after the Nigerian civil war. According to the governor, the ploy was aimed at disenfranchising the Igbos so as not to allow them come together and forge a common front in their quest to produce a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2007. The governor, who identified the clergymen as stakeholders in the development of the state due to their proximity to the electorate, urged them to continue to offer prayers and words of correction to political leaders so that they would be guided by conscience in all their decisions. He reiterated his willingness to pay whatever sacrifice it would take to liberate the Igbos from the mentality of defeat which, he identified, as one of the single largest factors that have militated against the advancement of the South-east zone. Earlier, in his address, the host Bishop, Luscious Ugorji of the Umuahia Diocese thanked Kalu for according them the honour of personally gracing the reception and prayed God to guide the governor in all his dealings.
