2 Convicted for Bribery FCT From Iyefu Adoba in Abuja Two motorists have been sentenced to various jail terms by two different magistrate courts in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, for offering bribes to official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). Delivering separate judgments, Justice M. Onipede and Mrs Aina convicted and sentenced Hammed Musa and Olu Oguntuase to six months and three months imprisonment with N1000 and N3000 options of fines respectively. in a statement signed by the FRSC Head of Media Section, Deputy Corps Commander Olagunju Kayode, the traffic offenders were accosted on Ado-Ikare road where they allegedly offered bribes of N300 and N500 to evade apprehension contrary to section 11 (5) of FRSC Act (as amended) Cap 141 of the Law of Federation of Nigeria, 1990. Meanwhile, FRSC has issued a warning to motorists to desist from offering bribes to its men on patrol. The commission advised the public to report immediately to the commission any marshal who either demands or receives bribes from any offender. Appealing to the public to assist in sanitising the system, Kayode said the public should note that marshals and officers have their name tags on their uniforms, while patrol vehicles and operational bikes of the commission have highly visible numbers painted on them. This, he said, is to facilitate easy identification of every patrol team and encouraged motorists to report the date, time, route, location and names of FRSC team members whenever they act inappropriately.
