Abavo People Attacked over Ward Delineation
Delta
From Jaiyeola Andrews in Asaba

Wards delineation in Delta State took a dangerous dimension resulting into violence between the Abavo and Agbor clans both of Ika South Council area of the state.

At a press briefing yesterday in Asaba, the National President of Abavo Clan Union, Hon. Mike Eku, alleged that the chairman of the council, who is also from Agbor clan, Hon Sunny Ogwu, sponsored some thugs who, according to him, unleashed harrasment and molestation on indigenes of Abavo in Agbor.

According to Eku, "again on August 5 at about 8 am, the thugs and hoodlums who had now increased in their number took to the street at the request of Honourable Sunny Ogwu and beat up all persons to be indigenes of Abavo."

He alleged that the thugs and hoodlums, who were chanting war songs, vandalised some vehicles belonging to Abavo indigenes at their motor park located on Baleke and Iregwa streets in Agbor.

"We want to sound a note of warning to all those behind the cowardly act that any further attack on any Abavo son or daughter will be considered as an act of aggression on the people of Abavo and will be treated as such. The silence of Abavo people should not be taken for weakness," he declared.

He stressed that while the mayhem was being unleashed on Abavo people in Agbor, the council chairman declined to alert the police for possible arrest.

Recently, the people of Agbor equally protested the delineation of wards in their clan, alleging imbalance and called on the state Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) to urgently address othe situation.

Besides, he noted that they would not want to fan the ember of discord with their Abavo brothers, arguing that going by numerical strength, Agbor deserved more wards compared to Abavo clan.
