Sports-tourism: Oba Akiolu Commends MTN
Oba Rilwan Akiolu1 of Lagos has commended GSM provider, MTN for identifying with sports-tourism in the country, saying that since the introduction of the MTN Lagos International Half Marathon, two years ago, "we have not ceased to express our excitement".
The royal father said that it is another opportunity to develop the state's tourism potential in the sporting activity by a private organisation.
Oba Akiolu expressed this view during the Stakeholders Summit for a Successful MTN Lagos International Marathon in Lagos recently.
According to him, "The Culture and Tourism Minister, Ambassador Franklin Ogbuewu had always insisted that culture and tradition attract people to a place while tourism takes their money. It has been our desire to make Lagos State as one of the top spots in the world tourism map". He said that the effort has come to fruition because of the desire of Lagos Sttae Governor to encourage public-private sector pratnership in tourism development.
"I want to take this opportunity to thank the Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose government has continued to place high premium on the preservation of our customs and traditions. He has at several occasions made it known that the state is prepared to provide the enabling environment for culture and tourism development. This call had specifically gone to the prospective investors whether local or foreign.
Organisers of the MTN Lagos International Half Marathon have taken the first major step towards a hitch free race this year. They were brought together at a summit penultimate Thursday with all stakeholders of the event led by the Lagos Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Honourable Opeyemi Bamidele.
The Stakeholders' Conference is an interactive platform on which different stakeholders will collaborate strategically in order to improve the impact and importance of the Lagos Marathon for the benefits of all.
