Five roasted to death in auto crash By Okey Maduforo, Correspondent, Awka   Five persons were burnt to death on Thursday in an accident involving a fiat commuter bus travelling from Enugu to Onitsha in Anambra State. It occurred near Amawbia junction along Enugu-Onitsha expressway. According to an eyewitness, the bus with registration number Enugu XJ 815 ENE, lost control when one of its rear tyres burst while descending a steep hill. It thus somersaulted several times before bursting into flames. A crowd of people most of who were helpless gathered at the scene of the accident and they obstructed officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and traffic policemen from carrying out effective rescue operations. The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Mr. Charles Theophilus, said the passengers who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment. Survivors of the accident that included a middle-aged woman with her eight months old son were seen at the Regina Celehi Hospital, Awka receiving treatment. The remains of the victims were deposited at the General Hospital, Enugwu-Ukwu after an attempt to deposit them at the Amaku General Hospital, Awka failed due to lack of mortuary facilities.       Copyright� 2002.
