The
people of Ogun West Senatorial District under the aegis of Power Group has
praised Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel for giving a N100 million
compensation to the people of Ibese community rooting for the governor’s
return in 2007.
Speaking
with reporters at Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government area of Ogun State , the
group said the employment of no fewer than 2,000 graduate teachers and
dualisation of Abeokuta-Sagamu road were some of the reasons that informed
their stance.
The
Chairman of the group, Alhaji Aliu Ajibode, added that Ogun West Senatorial
district had never had it so good in the state under Daniel as governor, even
as he appealed to the governor to back the region in its quest for more local
council areas to ensure equity.
“Ogun West was liberated from
slavery and squalor with the selection of one of us as deputy governor of our
darling state which is the first time ever that someone from the district would
be occupying such exalted position since the creation of the state,” the
former board member of Education Tax Fund (ETF) stated.
He
advised the indigenes from the area to aspire for governorship seat after 2011.
“When we get to the bridge, we will cross it”, Ajibode stated when
asked whether the governor would not use and dump them.
Also,
the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun East Senatorial District has
endorsed Daniel to run for second term.
A
statement at the end of a meeting held at Chief Kola Ogunjobi’s residence
stated that the district commended the governor for what it described as good
leadership, saying that with the governor’s performance so far, there
would be no vacancy for that office in the 2007 general elections.
“The
district comprising nine local governments in the state held that they are
impressed with the performance of the governor as he has brought to us the
dividends of democracy as well as good and meaningful leadership”, the
statement said.
The
group warned the ‘detractors’ of the governor to desist from any
moves that could derail the party.
Responding,
the governor promised to consolidate on his achievements. He cautioned the gathering to be wary
of their activities, adding that his administration had proved to the masses
that politicians are reliable as against popular belief.
He also informed the gathering that the government had
provided 50 buses for the transport sector to ease transportation problems in
the state.
