False certificates rock NFA

By Peter Edema

Snr. Correspondent, Lagos

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) is knee deep in the process of unravelling certificate forgery involving two of its top officials.

The officials, it was learnt, have forged masters degree certificates. One of them  is known to have resumed recently at the NFA Abuja Glass House as head of a department.

The official, who resumed recently, it was learnt, claimed he obtained the second degree from a London school.

Both officials, sources say are highly placed in the football house, with one of them already on the firing line.

It was learnt that the Sports Minister, Col. Musa Mohammed, has been given the nod  by the presidency to fire the officials involved in the certificate forgery since January, but the minister was only bidding time.

The restructuring of the NFA by the minister, sources disclosed was the plank the minister wanted to use to ease out one of the affected officials, since the earlier committee instituted by the NFA and headed by the board’s first Vice-Chairman, Dogo Yabilsu, a retired colonel, failed to get to the root of the matter.

The NFA committee, among others discovered that the football house lacked accounting system with several officials not having personal files.

“We called him and informed him that the minister has gotten the nod of the presidency to sack him. We advised him to get very close to the minister. The minister is only bidding time. This he has been doing, if not he would have been eased out  a long time ago,” the source disclosed.

It was not possible to get the sports minister to react to the allegation, since he has travelled to Athens for the Olympic Games.
