Why I am still with Shooting
Stars - Onigbinde
By Sola Shittu
Reporter, Ibadan
The general manager of
Shooting Stars Sporting Club (3SC), Ibadan Chief Adegboye Onigbinde has said that Governor
Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo State is the motivating factor behind his remaining
in the 3SC.
Onigbinde in an interview with
journalists in Ibadan described Ladoja‘s attitude to the Ibadan darling
club as perfect.
“He (Ladoja) gave us
responsibility with authority and he played his own part of the bargain.
I cannot say that I am not aware of the intrigue against me by some
people but the governor will not panic, that has been my motivating
factor, Ladoja made me to remain in 3SC,” said Onigbinde.
He noted that though he has
not seen the governor face to face for the past ten months but he has
left him to do the business of managing the 3SC without minding the
politicking against him by those seeking to be members of 3SC management
board.
“People have gone to the
government to say a lot of things about this club, people who want to be
chairman of the board and people who are apprehensive about their roles
if the club eventually becomes privatised and so are working against its privatisation,” he said.
Onigbinde said up till now,
the governor has stuck to his gun and remains the club’s number one supporter.
“Some other people would have taken panicky actions which would have
destroyed the team. But this man would not panic and that is the hallmark
of an intelligent serious man.”
He said when things are not
going well for the club, the governor had been under pressure to take
some drastic measures but he
has continued to express confidence in the team’s leadership.
Onigbinde added that with such
support from the governor, he was determined to see the whole thing to
through..
He expressed the hope that the
club will be able to justify the confidence reposed in them.
“I knew occasionally he was
under some pressure to do certain things but the fact that he maintained
a stand, gave me a lot of courage and confidence. It was like what made
me to stay with the national team to the World Cup. It was the late
minister, who gave me the confidence to go ahead and do the right thing,”
he said.
