Residents Offer N240m for Eric Moore Towers By Ibrahim Sule Controversy sorrounding the sales of Federal Government high-rise residential buildings in Lagos yesterday took a new turn as the residents of Eric Moore Towers, Lagos, offered to buy the entire 144 flats for N240.66 million, as against the highest bid of N40.11 million offered by the preferred bidder, Dock Management Nigeria Limited. Addressing newsmen yesterday in Lagos, the President of the Residents Association of Eric Moore Towers, Mr. Daniel Makolo, disclosed that the association has been able to raised over N300 million from a Lagos-based primary mortgage institution. He said: "We have raised N300 million out of which we are offering to pay N240.66 million to the Federal Government and the balance will be used to maintain this estate properly." Makolo added that the residents were willing to pay "this much to tell the government and its implementation committee that if it is money they want, their money is ready for collection." The residents called on President Olusegun Obasanjo to save them from "the calculated attempt by the implementation committee on the alienation of Federal Government landed properties in Lagos to forcefully, maliciously and unlawfully sell and eject us from our flats in spite of our often stated desire and readiness to purchase the flats, not just at the price of the highest bidder as required by the White Paper released by the Federal Government."
