FHA Moves to Relocate Festac Town Market, Mechanics By Bennett Oghifo Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has planned to relocate all the markets within FESTAC Town into a designated venue. The Authority's Acting Managing Director, Malam Ibrahim Hassan said this at the weekend, noting that the markets, the motor vehicle repairers would move into a piece of land originally allocated to them. Hassan, who was on an inspection tour of on-going demolition of illegal structures in the town, said the Minister of Housing, Mrs. Mobolaji Osomo, has instructed that the defaced scenic beauty of FESTAC Town be reversed. Three weeks ago, Hassan promised the residents' association that he would remove illegal structures from the environment. At the fore of the problem are containers placed on unapproved spots. Their owners were told to remove them within two weeks, but some of them refused and a committee raised by the Authority in collaboration with the residents' association proceeded to remove them without further notice. "As far as the clearance is concerned, it has achieved 80 per cent completion but the only thing that I observed was that most of the containers that were destroyed were allowed to litter the environment so, I have given the committee an instruction to remove them," he said. He added that there are so many mechanics in the town operating on land that is not allocated for that purpose.
