By Tayo Ajakaye
Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communicat-ions Commission, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, has commended MTS First Wireless for its new telecoms network and asked the company not to relent on its promise to provide affordable and quality services.
Ndukwe, in a post-launch chat with newsmen, said he is very excited that yet another network is coming into Nigeria, saying "I am impressed with what I have seen. We only wish the company well and hope that this will add more lines into the Nigerian network and build a very strong and robust network into our country." Ndukwe, who accompanied the Minister of Communications, Chief Corne-lius Adebayo, to commission the MTS First Wireless network in Lagos, advised MTS to make their marketing very sharp.
"Your marketing has to be sharp and you have to be able to deliver on your promises," he said.
According to Ndukwe, it has been discovered by NCC that many operators do not have interface points where customer complaints are made and advised MTS to make its consumer interface points to be second to none.
"We recommend since you are coming fresh, that you can be second to none and become the benchmark in the industry," he added.
The Minister of Communi-cations, who commended First Wireless Ltd for particularly bringing direct foreign investment into the country, congratulated the company on the new switch.
He said government believes that MTS First Wireless occupies a unique position to improve and facilitate the aspiration of government in spreading affordable telecommunications across the country.
Chairman of First Wireless, Lt Gen. Mohammed Inua Wushishi, mentioned the key financial institutions and companies, which funded and built the network to include Union Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust bank Plc, City Express Bank Plc, Equity Bank Plc, IMB Plc, Asset Management Resources Ltd, (ARM), US EXIM Bank, Sofitel Capital Inc. and many facilitators and creditors in private and corporate Nigeria and abroad.
On the infrastructure, he said China Putian/Eastcom, supplied and deployed the CDMA2001X network, and is continuing to deploy it in our selected locations
across the country.
He said MTS has gone a long way with China Putian in this business and they have continued to deliver. MTS prides itself as the first company in Africa to put China Putian's footprint in Africa. He also mentioned Bacom Ltd, which provided the satellite, Internet and data infrastructures, including the bandwidth and Procomtel, another
Nigerian company which supplied towers in our base stations. This may not be the most appropriate time to show our profound appreciation to our shareholders, but permit me to say that they have made us proud with what we
are about to see here. "We have a skilled management that will ensure that this infrastructure delivers those objectives of the promoters, shareholders and all stakeholders", he said.
