Forum Blames Youth Restiveness on Poverty, Social Decay By Andrew Ahiante The nagging issue of youth restiveness presently posing serious threat to the peace, security and development of the country was recently the focus of discussion in Benin City, Edo State. The forum organised by Lapo Development Centre (LADEC), according to James Abhulimen, Head of Media for LAPO, was to further bring the menace to the front burner and to better suggest the way forward. Abhulimen said participants blamed the ugly scenario on the unprecedented level of poverty in the country, suggesting that to arrest the drift, those in authority must initiate genuine programmes to positively transforming the lives of the youths and other oppressed people in the society. The forum expressed worry that although the country was blessed with abundance natural and human resources, it occupied a shameful position in the list of poor countries in the world. Accordingly, the forum called on managers of the economy to stop accumulation of wealth, profligacy, corruption and all forms of dishonest conducts. According to the Executive Director of LAPO (Lift Above Poverty Organization), Mr Godwin Ehigiamusoe, the quarterly dialogue was to create a platform for interaction between the people and the government for the purpose of reassessing the social contract that exists between them.
