NATIONAL NEWS INEC under pressure to recognise Obi as Anambra senator By MOTUNRAYO AKINWANDE Sunday, August 15, 2004 INDEPENDENT Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) is under pressure to recognise Chief Ben Obi as senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District following his confirmation by the Enugu Division of the Court of Appeal. The appellate court had while ruling May 4, in a suit number CA/EPT/22/2003: Senator I.G. Abana versus Chief Ben Obi confirmed that Obi was the PDP candidate that contested, won and was only declared and returned as senator for the district. But the court verdict notwithstanding, INEC has refused to issue Obi a certificate of return as senator representing the district on the grounds that there is another suit against his victory. No fewer than 20 persons from Anambra Central Senatorial District are asking INEC to recognise the ruling in favour of the senatorial candidate in the April 12 and 16 National Assembly elections.
