In a statement at the weekend by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Udeala, Gov. Kalu said there was a calculated plot to create a disagreement among the governors. Governor Kalu, who made the assertion while speaking at a special reception put together by the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia late last week to welcome the Bishops of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province of the Catholic Church to Umuahia during their second plenary session for 2004 at the Mater Dei Cathedral, Umuahia, noted that it is quite unfortunate that the Igbo were still being treated as enemies 34 years after the cessation of the Nigerian Civil War. According to the governor, the ploy is aimed at disenfranchising the Igbo so as not to allow them come together and forge a common front in their quest to produce a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2007. The governor, who identified the clergy as stakeholders in the development of the state due to their proximity to the electorate urged them to continue to offer prayers and words of correction to political leaders so that they will be guided by conscience in all their decisions.
